Making Calendars

For the last four or five years I have enjoyed making personal calendars for my family and it’s a gift that they can enjoy all year-long.  I’ve started calendars for this year but they are a work in progress.

I have an old computer program that I got years ago called “Greeting Card Factory”  and I use it to format my calendars and I also use it when I want to make “special greeting cards.  It’s awesome and I’m not sure there is a newer version on the market or not.

Once I get the main format set up I can add photos, special dates, different fonts,  and the list goes on and on.

This is an image of a month I did for my Granddaughter last Christmas. I had all sorts of photos on it of her and her animals. I think she liked it!!

The format is so easy to use and I use all sorts of special papers with the calendar as well but most of the pages are using card stock.

This apparatus is used to punch holes in the pages so they flip easily.

The plastic coil that holds the calendar together fits on this apparatus making it easy to put the calendars together.

Calendars are great stocking stuffers and as I said previously they’re a gift your family and friends can enjoy all year round!!  Adding family birth dates and anniversaries is a great addition and make the calendar date blocks a little large makes for a day planner, too!!

Birthday Gifts From Family

I had a birthday back in December and was blessed with some beautiful gifts from my family and friends.

My granddaughter came to see me and brought me this beautiful bouquet that lasted two weeks. She spent over an hour with me just catching up on her very busy life!

Father’s Day with Mr. Caldwell

Father’s Day at Caldwell Farms was blessed with glorious weather and our kids and granddaughter with us.

I fixed him a big breakfast of his favorite pancakes, maple syrup and sausages and then presented him with my gifts for being a wonderful Dad.  I got him a honey extractor, double strainer and honey de-capper.

Heather gifted her Dad with some new bibs, gloves and a new box of honeycomb.  I think once our hay is off the ground and rolled we’ll be taking care of business with the beehives.

Knit dishcloths

My very special friend in Maryland sent me a wonderful gift a few weeks ago and I wanted to share it with you.  She has sent me several surprises over the last few years and everyone has been wonderful.  She knows me so well!!

Margaret is a knitter and I want to be.  For years she has been making my favorite dish cloths.  I recently got a package from her and this is what was in it.

The day they arrived the last one she made me about four years ago fell apart and I just about had a heart attack.  My beautiful friend made these for me when she was recovering from a blood clot or two that normally kills people.  This happened right after we had come back from our “First Annual Girls Trip”.  Margaret is a miracle  and my best friend.  I’m so glad that God has allowed her to stick around so she can keep me straight and make me laugh until my jaws hurt.

Margaret, thank you and I love you, ladybug!!

44 Years

On February 4, 1972 Eddie and I eloped to Sparta, North Carolina.  This morning the love of my life presented me with the following that he handmade and I love it.

He took two single-trees and made a frame for a frame and put in his favorite picture of us together.

Isn’t it beautiful and the parts came from this farm and are probably over 100 years old because he said that uncle Holl never had horses while he was growing up and helped his uncle on the farm.

For our 45th we’re planning to go back to Sparta for a visit if the weather is good. In 1972 it was snowing and cold and the roads were covered with ice.  We were young and spirited then and a little more level-headed after 44 years.  😉

Creative Husband (Another catch up post)

My husband always asked me around Thanksgiving what I want for Christmas or he’ll ask our daughter to find out what I want for Christmas, my birthday, anniversary!  He won’t forget but he hates figure out what to give me on his own.  I think a lot of men are like this!  It’s just too hard to listen or use their imagination or worse than that, they’re afraid we won’t like it.  I love ALL gifts I receive, I promise, but especially if it’s handmade or took a little thought about what I’m about!!

I November 2014 I was asked the question once again.  I was ready!!!  I told him I wanted a new bookshelf beside my “spot” in the living room to replace the cheapy I bought from WalMart which was falling apart and I’d only had it about a year.  Pressed wood sucks!!!   Or, I would like for him to make me a new spice rack for my kitchen and I wanted them made from barnwood or any kind of lumber taken from the farm.

Well, I didn’t get them for Christmas but since then he has made them both and just in time for our anniversary which was in February!  Both are made from boards lumbered from the farm.  He did such a great job!!  Here they are:

Three spice racks made from oak, cedar and pine and now full and hanging in my country kitchen!

While he was working so hard on my wishes he also made our daughter a gift for her new house and made out of wormy chestnut sawed on the farm by her great uncle Holl.

Mother’s Day with my Granddaughter

This says it all!!!  I love you Victoria!!!!

Mother’s Day 2014

Mother’s Day was a whirlwind of activity.  My son and daughter came early and spent the entire day with us.  I also had friends from the office join us for lunch and we visited the babies, picked asparagus, walked a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the day.  The day started for me at 6:00 a.m. and everyone was gone by 5:30.  Then,  hubby Sassy and I enjoyed some quiet time.
Heather and Shawn bought me beautiful cards and a push mower for the yard which I’ve wanted for two years and was going to buy in June.  It’s part of my new weightloss program.

Eddie made me a beautiful hanging flower table out of a old wagon wheel and bought flowers to go on it.  He had to have the kids help him hang it in the yard while I was preparing lunch for our other guests.  I absolutely love it and never thought for a minute he would re-purpose something like this.  I may be rubbing off on him! 😉

Not only did he build the table for me but he loaded it with plants that I’ll repot as soon as the cold snap passes this weekend.  He also went to the woods and brought me this beautiful bouquet of trillium.  The blossoms are so delicate and elegant, don’t you think?

They adorned our kitchen table where I served our guest and my family their lunch.  We’re going to try to transplant some to my shaded flower gardens later this week or next.  Hopefully with all the shade they’ll think they’re in the woods and thrive.  He also got me a beautiful card and all of my cards made me cry!!  I am so loved.

To top the day, one of our gielbiev cows delivered a calf which was perfect for Mother’s Day.

I hope your Mother’s Day was as wonderful as mine.

I also order my daughter a 10-12 pack of teaberry gum because the others won’t share.  Next year their Candy Crate box may hold a large lump of coal.  The crates come in year priority such as 1940, 1930, 1950, 1960, and so on.  My personal favorite is 1950!

Thought we all might need a little whimsy in our posts today.  Enjoy!  Try Candy Crate online.

The man who puts up with me & the kids that help him

If you will recall, I posted a few days ago that my wonderful hubby had bought me a new computer for my birthday and Christmas (both in December).  I really missed my blogging and he knew it.  Well, Christmas morning I was so surprised to find out that he had also got me another beauty and here it is!

My 2012 Christmas gift from my wonderful husband!

My 2012 Christmas gift from my wonderful husband!

This is very special to me because he knows I’m not a jewelry girl at all but for the last four years he has got me a dainty necklace for my birthday or Christmas.   This one he picked out himself at a reputable jeweler.  The only time he’s ever set foot in these places is to buy my wedding rings 40 years ago.   I don’t wear jewelry except for my wedding rings UNTIL he got me these gifts.  Here’s a  picture of the first one he gave me but had my daughter pick it out after telling her what he wanted for me!  I am so blessed!!

This year because of the economy our kids asked that we not exchange gifts with them because work has been slow for both households.  I always go overboard when it comes to gifting for them and it make my Christmas a little “strange” to say the least.  On Christmas night when we got together they pulled a fast one both kids got us gift certificates to our favorite restaurant.  I love them so much and appreciate all they do for us every day!!I also received two unusual but beautiful gifts from my granddaughter, Victoria!  The first is a copper hearth cricket and as the  Legend has it,  a cricket in the house will bring good fortune to the home when placed on the hearth or mantel.  Mine is living on the mantle in our living room.

The other beauty she got for me is a Patina watering can shaped like a goose.  She knows how much I love gardening inside and out and this little goose will be used often.
