The last day of January 2021 left us with this:

It started around 11:00 pm on Saturday night and ended before noon on Sunday. We had off and on snow, sleet and rain throughout Sunday but without much accumulation. Our son-in-law, Joel, cleared the driveway with his four-wheeler and scraper blade while Eddie fed the cattle and we appreciated it so much. The snow blower finished the job with paths to all the small animals and around the yard. The wind is supposed to howl sometime this afternoon through the next couple days and that’s what we hate more than the snow.
Lots of snow! Wonderful to get the help … stay warm

The excellent photos of the situation in your neck of the woods was enough to give me
the shivers………and to think in my youth I loved skiing!!!!!!
Here we have more rain on the east coastline……..reminds me of the wet season in the
tropics. The weather has just gone beserk.
February is our hottest month here in Australia and I have a windjacket on!!! Bizarre.
Cheers ( if possible between the wind chills)

It sounds like you got the same mix that’s supposed to start up here tomorrow morning. Hours of snow followed by hours of ice pellets followed by hours of rain. So you’re left with a heavy, unpleasant mess instead of beautiful light white snow. Yuck. Stay warm and dry – and safe, Rita.

Will do Jane!! Even with the sleet and rain (very little) our snow has stayed light and fluffy. Wind moving in tonight and that may be a game changer. My grandson is in NJ and they over 14″ today and he’s been out playing in it for a few minutes but his Mom said the wind was getting bad so they went back in with no complaints!! He’s such a good little boy!!!

So sweet to think of little Declan (right?) playing in that much snow. I’ll report back on whether we get the happier result you got of nice snow without too much heavy ice pellets and rain turning it into a heavy mess. Your pictures look beautiful.

Status report: our version ended up as about 6” of extraordinarily heavy , ice pellets filled, wet snow, kind of like wet cement. Fortunately, it’s warm so will melt. What a strange winter.

I”m only out during the day twice to gather eggs and take warm water to the chickens. I bring the firewood from the porch into the house and I’m done. Not taking any chances! I even added zinc to my vitamin regimen to boost the Vitamin D. Waiting to hear when we can get our vaccinations.

We’re getting hammered here in NJ, but the temperature seems to be rising. It sounds like it’s raining now, but we have a LOT of snow on the ground and it’s not over yet. Try to stay warm and dry!
