Hay harvest slow but moving along

I wanted to share some photos my daughter took last week while helping her Dad harvest some more hay!  I think they’re beautiful!

  1. Rita – beautiful pictures. I know it’s hard work but it also looks calming. Love Jip napping so peaceful, at least while they sleep. Almost like kids!

    • It is and we were so worried because it was so dry and dead. We couldn’t get it up for the rain of 20+ inches in three months. Eddie said the undergrowth made a big difference. We’ve got a long ways to go to get it done and he is working in it today and tomorrow. We’ll see what the rest of the week brings.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Rita. I remember the huge sense of satisfaction after successfully completing a field and getting the DRY bales in the barn. Those were in the days of the old small square bales. They didn’t seem small to me at the time!

    • Those square bales still aren’t small. We usually put at least 100 bales in the bull barn each year and we have three other barns with square bales for those emergency winter storms when we may not be able to get to the cows and bring them closer to home and feed in the barns. They seem to last forever and the cows seem to like them so much better than the big bales.
